Getting links to your website is one of the most crucial things that you have to do if you want to get high rankings on Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most tedious and difficult tasks to achieve. Do you make the most of your existing links? It's often much simpler to improve your existing backlinks as opposed to getting new links to your site.

1. Fix links that point to old domain names

If you changed your domain name in the past, chances are that some people still link to your old domain name.

Links to your old domain name should redirect to your new domain with a 301 redirect to make sure that the links aren't lost. However, links through 301 redirects do not pass the full link power to your website.

If necessary, contact the site owner or webmasters who link to your old domain name and ask them to link to your new domain. This will increase the link popularity of your website and raise your search website rankings.

2. Fix links to broken pages

Check your website statistics and redirect all links that go to broken ( or 404) pages to an existing pages on your site. This way you do not lose potential visitors.

If necessary, contact the site owner or webmasters and ask them fix those broken page links.

3. Improve the link anchor text

Changing the link anchor text ,(the hyperlinked keyword(s) pointing to your page), will improve rankin for those keyword(s) phrases.

4. Suggest other topic-relevant websites

Co-citation and reciprocal links can help your search engine results if the external content you are linking to is relevant to your content.

5. Check your links

If you want to have certain pages of your website listed in Google's search results, then those pages should also be linked through the navigation of your site. If a page is hidden in the navigation of your site then it will not help you achieve a good position in Google's results.

Your website should have a clear and logical navigation, with emphasis on pages that you want to see in Google's search results.

TIP: High rankings on Google are the result of effective inbound linking and pages that are SEO optimized with relevant content.
